In this inaugural episode of The Warrior Parent Podcast, hosts Marci Mitchell and Debbie DiManno talk about how Cour Experience began and share their backgrounds and experiences that have led them to this purposeful work. They talk about the tools that have helped them navigate challenging times with their families, as well as their vision for this podcast. The episode concludes with a conversation and meditation segment with Donna Apidone.
Marci and Debbie reflect on how Cour Experience all began. They were in a class together with a small group of women and they were reading Brené Brown's book, Rising Strong. In the book group, they learned about owning your story and re-writing it. That began the conversation about finding their calling and beginning this purposeful work.
Marci and Debbie talk about their favorite Cour Tool moments. Debbie shares her story from a traumatic childhood to when her body started breaking down in her thirties. She realized that she had been looking outward for someone to fix her, when she instead needed to look inward with the tools she had available. Marci’s Cour Tool moment happened during the 2008-2009 recession when her and her family experienced a financial crisis.
Both of Marci’s sons deal with anxiety and depression. She talks about the calming effects of bilateral tapping and how it helped her son in preparing for a medical procedure. Grounding by putting her feet on the earth is another method she frequently uses. Debbie shares a story of when her daughter was in a car accident. When she received the diagnosis of POTS Syndrome, Debbie and her family discovered Heart Math.
Marci and Debbie’s goal is to change communities one person at a time. It's a difficult time to raise kids, but they know parents don’t get to give up. The stakes are too high. This podcast will provide a place to speak with the experts on issues related to parenting, as well as equip parents with tools to help their families.
Some of Debbie’s favorite tools are meditation and yoga and she incorporates them into her life in a variety of ways. Bilateral tapping is another one of her favorites. Marci shares some of the physical benefits of a grounding practice. Journaling is another one with scientifically proven benefits. Heart Brain Coherence (Heart Math) and Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT) are a couple more of their favorites.
Donna Apidone joins Marci and Debbie on the podcast to share a sample from one of her mediation sessions. Donna teaches a class about finding purpose. She explains how this led to her meditation work. Her meditations feature upbeat music, positive messages and are short enough that they are accessible for everyone to fit into their day.
