In this special episode of The Warrior Parent Podcast, hosts Marci Mitchell and Debbie DiManno talk about Enneagram, what it is, why it matters, and how to use it in your own life and relationships. Debbie highlights the importance of acknowledging mental well-being for teens and young adults. She encourages teens to seize the opportunity to shape their reality and embrace mental wellness as an option for a brighter future.
Debbie explains what Enneagram is - from its etymology to its diagram. Enneagram is a 9-point map that helps people discover their personalities. It is based on the idea that people are born with a distinct temperament, the foundation for their personality. Debbie also talks about her personal mission of understanding herself on a deeper level and that’s how she came to know Enneagram. She shares her journey of how this helped her with personal relationships and understand herself more and widen her perspective on other personality types.
Debbie talks about the points or basic personality types in Enneagram. The first point is the Reformer whose basic desire is to be good and honorable. They expect a lot from themselves and from other people. Reformers are perfectionist, ethical, and motivated. The second point is the Helper whose basic desire is to be loved completely; they also need attention and encouragement. The Achiever is the third point whose basic desire is to be worthy and important. Achievers are charming, ambitious, and energetic.
The fourth type in Enneagram is the Individualist who is the creative artist and hopeless romantic of the group. Individualists or Creatives desire to be authentically themselves and their basic fear is having no personal identity. The fifth type is the Investigator whose basic desire is to be useful. Investigators are introspective, thoughtful, curious, and need plenty of time to themselves. The sixth type is the Loyalist whose basic desire is to be stable and secure. They are loyal, skeptical and anxious, and they need to feel safe to express themselves.
The seventh type is the Enthusiast whose basic desire is to be fulfilled and happy. Enthusiasts are adventurous, fun, and practical. They appreciate a positive open-minded attitude. The eighth point in Enneagram is the Challenger whose communication style is direct and logical. Challengers are assertive, confident, and protective. The last type is the Peacekeeper who loves their peace. Peacekeepers are the gentle, empathetic people who will go the extra mile. They are adaptable and optimistic. Marci and Debbie also talk about some of the personalities that fall under each type.
