Show Notes

In this guest episode of The Warrior Parent Podcast, hosts Marci Mitchell and Debbie DiManno explore the transformative journey of teen life coach Ariel Jolie, who was compelled to empower teens after a personal health scare tied to societal pressures. Ariel highlights the importance of acknowledging mental well-being for teens and young adults. She encourages teens to seize the opportunity to shape their reality and embrace mental wellness as an option for a brighter future.

Internal and External Reactions

Ariel talks about her journey of becoming a teen life coach, which all started with her own personal health scare. She ended up learning that she was having health issues mainly because of her body reacting to stressful situations due to her forcibly trying to change her persona. The body will react to imbalances of all kinds, and this situation shows what can happen both physically and mentally in these types of cases. This situation led her to want to become a life coach for teens to help them navigate changes and difficult transitions in their lives.

Outlets for Feelings

When dealing with mental unwellness, it takes two steps. The first is to acknowledge and understand that something isn’t quite right, and the second is willingness to go down a hard path to pull yourself out on the other side of it. It can be hard for teens to talk about mental wellness, especially to adults, so it’s good to find outlets that work for them, like journaling to get things out in the open to start healing. Teens need a way to feel confident about having different emotions because it’s part of the human experience, but not letting it define who they are.

Parent and Teen Communication

Ariel talks about how communication between parents and teens can be difficult. Teens are trying to be more independent and discover who they are, and sometimes they feel the advice they are getting from their parents is not what they need at that moment. It’s important for parents and teens to come up with language and a way to speak to one another that makes sense for both parties. Flipping the script can change the relationships and build stronger family dynamics.

Opening up to Possibilities

For so long, mental health has been seen as something taboo that shouldn’t be discussed, and the world is finally opening up to embracing mental wellness. With the coaching that Ariel does, she helps teens understand that their reality is what they make it to be and what they want it to be, where the things that they find escape in becomes an option versus feeling like a need. Now is not where they need to be, it will take time, but they have the option to make changes toward a different kind of future.
