Show Notes

In this guest episode of The Warrior Parent Podcast, hosts Marci Mitchell and Debbie DiManno speak with guest Claire Goss, an educational psychologist who helps children navigate their unique learning styles and the challenges of the world itself. The group talks about counseling, education, and resources for both children and adults to support kids and provide the tools they need for success.

Educational Psychology

Claire has a passion for physiology and for understanding different learning styles. She’s worked in different schools and staff members in areas of counseling and educational psychology. Educational psychology differs from state to state, but in Claire’s case, she was required to work in a clinical setting and required to have teaching experience.

Resources for Children

In the case of school counselors, they are not allowed to go into therapy, nor do they have the experience. This can leave children and parents with very limited resources. The good thing is, now people are starting to recognize that early prevention is important, and schools are starting to have educational psychologists come in for interventions.

Learning and Teaching Styles

Social-emotional learning, teaching, and sharing is very important. Every child has a different way of learning, and there are tools available to help break down learning styles. The other important part of this is to ask the child how they feel they think they learn, not just telling them how they do. In today’s age, especially with the influence of technology and social media, it’s important to get kids to interact with others and work on building emotional connections.

Thank you so much for listening to this episode! This podcast is dedicated to supporting families through the ups and downs of parenting and mental wellness. We know how tough it can be to raise kids in today’s world, but you don’t have to do it alone. Join us and let’s lift each other up.

With love,

Marci & Debbie
