Awaken Your Consciousness

November 01, 20222 min read

Healing begins with awakening your consciousness (also known as Mindfulness). What exactly does it mean to awaken your consciousness? It means to live your life from a place of attention and intention versus running on autopilot. It means being awake and aware in the present moment - the now, which is the only place we can be at choice. The past is your history and the future lives in your imagination, but right now you have choice and dominion over how you show up on the planet. The foundation to your healing journey starts here, learning how to create consciously, purposefully and with intention! The main things to focus on when awakening your consciousness are:

1. Getting off of autopilot and becoming present.

2. Creating space between you and your thoughts.

3. Learning tools to build a practice of consciousness/mindfulness.

Our lives can be filled with distractions: cell phones, the fast-pace of  society, school, work and family obligations. It's important to take time, to slow down or pause and become present, conscious and aware.  How do we do this? Here are 3 easy tools you can try today to become more present and mindful:

  1. Find a calm, quiet place to sit comfortably and bring attention to your breath. Notice as you fill your lungs and belly and then release that air back out through your open mouth. As your thoughts come, just notice that you are thinking. No need to judge. Notice the thought and then release it. I like to think of thoughts like leaves falling off a tree. Simply allow them to flow in the wind; no need to hold onto them.

  2. Take a moment to notice your space. What do you smell? What do you see? Can you taste anything? What can you touch and how does it feel? What do you hear?

  3. Take a moment for a Body Scan. Mentally scan your body from your head down to your toes. What do you notice? Is their pain, tightness, tingling, numbness? Move slowly from body part to body part noticing what you notice.

Set a timer on your phone for 3x a day as a reminder to tap into your consciousness and follow the preceding steps or the guide above by the Holistic Psychologist to help you create consciousness throughout your day. Try it for 30 days. See if you can master these simple steps and then build from there!
